Had a dream last night about being chased by a grizzly bear. I was camping in a scary woods for a bet or something and a massive bear with huge claws came in the dead of night and chased me out of the woods and down a hill (think I was in Bath) and I had to run all the way home (which was really far) wearing no trousers and no shoes. I had to tell these kids who were smoking weed in a park on the way and they helped me out.

Spitalfields Jazz Festival?

At the weekend we went to Spitalfields for the Jazz Festival, which we completly missed (apart from seeing some boxes of drums being taken away... nnnnice) but we were lucky enough to have seen this big bastard...

He was called 'Tyson' and he had a head the size of a watermelon and his 'lead' was a chain which looked as if it should hold a playground swing. He was bigger than some humans (Kirsty), drooled like a mother f**ker (Kirsty) and his balls were bigger than kirstys balls.
Turner/Hooch (I forget which one Tom Hanks is, anyone?) aint got a touch on this protien guzzeling beast.

Flash on the Beach '09 cont... (see: Blogging all over the South-East)

Right, so, Flash day 3! We began the day by heading to the dome for a session with Mario Klingeman titled 'connecting the dots' and for a man who claimed he was merely a maths groupie ("I can't play zee instrooments but like watching zee band" [heavy German accent]) GOD DAMN did this guy know his maths! He spent about 30 minutes talking about how he tried to find a solution for finding prime numbers (which i followed pretty well for about 16 and a half minutes and actually believed we might be the ones he unveiled his prime number lifes work to). This involved all sorts of amazingly technical mathmatics and patterns from all sorts of people throughout history. So a greatly talented chap but he did tend to ramble on slightly, bit like some sort of mad scientist, trying to tell his lifes work in one hour, too eager to even understand. His enthusiasm was quite something. At the end he gave out some badges... I was abit confused and with the oppertunity of a free item in mind battled my way down to the front to see what was going on. But it actually was just badges. I have a badge.

Our next meeting was with a guy who had his hand right in the flash pie and had a nice interactive session for us. We controlled a giant game of 3D (we were given glasses) Pong by shaking glowsticks as a team. I'm sure there was probably much more to this session but the majority of the Flash stuff sadly, once again, was slightly 'out of my league' (point taken!) and I was quite happy to play pong as Mario from the last session had burnt my brain with his gnarley theorems.

After a fine steak and ale pie we went to the 'Jam session' where 6 speakers had 10 minutes each to blab about something one of which BLEW MY MIND...

So.. this might seem like a pic of just another flash geek rambling code but my good golly gosh... he was DJing! Speed coding. he had all the code on the screen to prove everthing he was doing (to those who actually could understand it, not me but It was genuinely impressive). he was typing code to control every aspect of the music and the code just kept piling down the page, editing and creating, very cool. CODING IS COOL!? hmm.. not sure, but this is...

CODE DJ VIDEO ON THE WAY (just spent the whole night uploading it on our shabby internet connection and now its not even here!, argh).

Next, illustrator James Jarvis. I found his work very cool and he seemed to do heaps of things I think are cool, illustration/toy making/high skate life/involved with Nike etc etc. and on top of all this he was a really nice guy, very calm and humble. Went up at the end and he gave me one of the drawings he was doing as he spoke to us + signature, jobs a good'un.


And so... the last session... Joshua Davis. Fuck, this guy is just on another level to every other person there. A colourful punch of real life in a place full of square-eyed nerds. His approach to graphic design was just awesome. AWESOME! He showed us how he constructs his work and uses programmes and a kaleidoscope technique to make these great images with ease. I really can't explain fully how awesome and inspiring this guy was for me but if you ever get the chance to see him take a lecture, for the love of god get right on it. OK, so I liked his style but seriously check him out, top dolla...
